Hathor: A birthing center focused on Black and Minority Women
"Black women are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It's partly why the overall rate of pregnancy-related deaths has climbed over the past two decades, making the maternal mortality rate in the United States the worst in any industrialized country, according to a 2016 analysis published in the journal The Lancet" (Heart.org, 2021). This is a fact that I believe we should directly address in the community. Every woman should be given the opportunity to safely deliver their child.

Our program is named after the Egyptian Goddess Hathor. She was known as The Golden Goddess who helped women to give birth. This program is at the genesis of it's fruition, however our goal is to have Hathor: A Birthing Center focused on Black and Minority Women, open and operating within five years. What are we doing until then? We have begun to provide new mothers with post-delivery packages free of charge, available to anyone. This includes items such as portable breast pumps, nursing gowns, post-partum recovery kits, diapers, ect. We have also begun accepting gently used items such as baby walkers, infant clothes, and toys that can be given to mothers who needs assistance during this time. If you would like to donate items, request a post-delivery package for an expecting mother, or simply would like more information, please feel free to contact us.
